Orthotics

What are
prescription orthotics?
Prescription orthotics
look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made
to correct your specific foot imbalance. Orthotics work on your feet much like
glasses work on your eyes- they reduce stress and strain on your body by
bringing your feet back into proper alignment. Orthotics fit into your shoes
comfortably as an insole but they have the advantage of having been made from
precise imprints of your feet.
How do they help?
Properly made
orthotics are custom molded to the support requirements of your feet. They help
restore the normal balance and alignment of your body by gently correcting foot
abnormalities. Orthotics can gently reduce problems associated with pressure
points, muscle strain and abnormal forces on the ankles, knees, hips and spine.
Over time orthotics, in conjunction with your prescribed treatment plan, can
bring you relief from fatigue and pain, allowing you to enjoy your daily
activities comfortably.
What types of
conditions can orthotics help with?
Orthotics may be
helpful if you experience localized foot pain, bunions/hammer toes, arch/heel
pain, leg/knee pain and hip/back pain. Orthotics may be helpful when altered
biomechanics lead to conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonosis,
shin splints, patella-femoral syndrome, iliotibial band syndrome and low-back
pain.
How are orthotics
prescribed at The Natural Way Health Clinic?
All patients undergo a
history and physical examination to determine if custom orthotics would be
suitable in the management of their condition. Once suitability is determined,
foam casts are taken of the patient’s feet and the casts along with the
examination findings and recommendations of the doctor are used in the
manufacturing of the orthotics.
