Homeopathy is a system
of medicine that is based on the Law of Similars. The idea is to stimulate the
body to recover itself by giving patients miniscule doses of a substance that
causes symptoms similar to those being experienced. The theory behind this is
that the minute dose will stimulate the body's own healing powers without side
effects.
How it works:
By successively
diluting the initial homeopathic substance, it is diluted to its physical limit.
This dilution limit is reached when the volume of the solute is unlikely to
contain a single molecule of the original solvent. The limit recognizes that
there is a large but finite and specific number of atoms or molecules in a mole
of substance (a mole is the molecular weight of a substance, expressed in
grams). That number of atoms or molecules is 6.022 X 1023, also known as
Avogadro's number.
Dilution of the
initial homeopathic substance in water alters the structure of the hydrogen
bonds within it. Although there is no longer a single molecule of the initial
homeopathic substance in the water (due to its extreme dilution) the altered
hydrogen bond structure of the water remains intact. Recent work done in the
fields of quantum physics, electrical resistance of homeopathic dilutions and
their waveforms, and quantum photochemistry, have studied this phenomenon.
These studies have further substantiated the notion that water retains a memory
of substances once dissolved.
It is believed that
the molecular properties retained by the water in homeopathic dilutions,
stimulate a healing effect in the body that is specific to the root cause of the
conditions experienced by the patient.
How it’s
prescribed:
Homeopathy is a
powerful tool that affects healing on a physical, mental, and emotional level.
A homeopathic remedy is selected using a complete individualized picture, in
addition to the disease symptom picture. This holistic method is contrary to
Western diagnostic techniques, which base diagnosis more exclusively on disease
symptoms. For this reason different people with the same symptoms may receive a
different homeopathic prescription.
Side Effects:
Homeopathic medicines
in high dilutions, taken under the supervision of trained professionals, are
considered safe and unlikely to cause severe adverse reactions. Some patients
report feeling worse for a brief period of time after starting homeopathic
remedies, as the body can temporarily stimulate symptoms in the process of
making an effort to restore health. Few reports of illness associated to
homeopathic remedies have been made to the FDA. Upon review of these reports
the FDA determined that the remedies were an unlikely cause of illness,
reinforcing their overall safety.
