Andrea Rowbottom RMT, Hon.BA

Andrea graduated in 1996 from the University of Waterloo with an Honours
Bachelor of Arts. Following university, she completed a diploma at a private
health college to become a Chiropractic Health Assistant (CHA). After
working for several busy multi-disciplinary clinics in Hamilton and
Kitchener, Andrea realized she wanted to pursue a more hands on career in
health care. Andrea completed the intensive program at the Cambridge campus
of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, receiving an Honours
Award for outstanding Academic and Clinical achievement. She then
successfully completed both the practical and written provincial
examinations at the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) to
become a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). Andrea is also an active member
of the Ontario Massage Therapist Association (OMTA).
Andrea has experience treating a variety of conditions, and has a strong
belief in continued education. She has completed numerous workshops in
Osteopathy and a course in
Esalen Deep Tissue Massage
which is a synthesis of massage and the direct fascia mobilization
techniques of Structural Integration (Rolfing). Releasing chronic
restrictions in the myofascial system often leads to structural changes,
which improve posture, reduce chronic levels of pain, and can dislodge long
held emotional and psychological patterning.
Esalen Deep Tissue/Fascial
work is performed with very little oil and has a stretching effect on the
surrounding fascia and tissues, removing adhesions in the connective tissue
and allowing the area to relax, increasing circulation, and often providing
pain relief. Other
courses of interest in the future include Advanced Esalen Massage focusing
on the Pelvic and Shoulder Girdle, Craniosacral Therapy, TMJ Treatment and
Thai Massage.
Andrea fully believes in intertwining therapeutic massage with relaxation
massage. Whether you desire a hard elbow or a soft touch, she can
accommodate your needs. Her style allows the muscles to unwind and loosen,
which gives the therapist access to tissue, for deeper work.
Andrea always encourages feedback and open communication from you about your
treatment - before, during or afterwards. She believes that every treatment
is your treatment, and your comfort level is always her first
concern.
Andrea enjoys spending time with a wide variety of animals on her farm just
outside of Waterloo. In fact, the horses experienced chiropractic care,
craniosacral therapy, acupuncture and massage before she ever did! She also
spends time hiking with her dog, reading, attending auctions and live
theatre.
